The Science of CBD and Pain

Cannabis reportedly offers a wide range of therapeutic effects, such as improved sleep and mood. It is also believed to be a miracle herb when it comes to pain relief. But how does cannabis help in alleviating pain in the first place?

The cannabis plant contains more than 400 different chemical compounds. Of these, 70 are cannabinoids. There are two well-known types of cannabinoids — tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Both are capable of immune modulation and have anti-inflammatory properties for pain management.

When consumed, these cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). As a result, the body regulates pain by enhancing its own self-repair system. It lessens the inflammation and provides recovery time for nerves and tissues.

The anti-inflammatory properties of THC are triggered once it interacts directly with CB2 receptors, which are commonly found in the brain. However, it can cause psychoactive effects. Or in simpler terms, this makes you feel euphoric “high.”

On the other hand, CBD relieves inflammation by increasing the level of your own body’s endocannabinoids. It is also a known anti-proliferative, so it prevents active immune cells from spreading further. When these two antioxidants engage with CB2 receptors, they can help alleviate pain and inflammation.

Unlike THC, CBD does not changes a person’s state of mind. It only influences the body to use its own endocannabinoids effectively. Also, CBD does not affect the brain’s pain centers like opioids. This means it does not have any addictive capabilities.

To further understand how CBD works, we need to understand the body’s ECS. This is responsible for regulating many of the body’s system, including the limbic, metabolic, nociceptive, and immunologic functions. If the ECS fails to work or produce enough endocannabinoids, these body functions may become unbalanced. Thus, ingesting natural cannabinoids or applying them topically can help restore balance.

CBD interacts with an enzyme known as fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). This enzyme is responsible for removing excess anandamide out of circulation. It also breaks down and gets rid of natural endocannabinoids. CBD, in turn, prevents this breakdown and increases the natural endocannabinoids present in the body. An increase in endocannabinoids means a balancing and healing effect in the body’s functions and systems.

You can read Science between CBD and Pain Relief to learn more about this complex relationship.

Today, CBD, in the form of CBD oil, is being used to help treat some common conditions. It can suppress or engage with receptors once it spreads to different parts of the body. Studies have shown its effectiveness against arthritis pain, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, anxiety, seizure, and a whole lot more.

CBD oil is currently gaining a lot of popularity. As the demand increases, more and more companies are beginning to give their shots in this industry. That being said, we should always go for the one we can trust. And one of the brands I have come to know and love is CBDfx.

The company provides a variety of full spectrum CBD products, so you get ultimate flexibility in the way we like our dose. Its CBD oils are organically and naturally grown from their partner farms in Europe. They are tended by hemp farmers who strictly comply with strict standards and ethical growing practices.

The quality of CBD oil highly depends on the number of cannabinoids and terpenes as well as the purity and extraction method. CBDfx’s CBD oil is rich both in cannabinoids and terpenes and is free of solvents and heavy metals. The company employs CO2 extraction method to ensure that it produces the purest and best full spectrum CBD oil. Also, CBDfx only uses the hemp oil extracted from the stems and stalks of mature plants. Other companies derive CBD oil from flowers and leaves, which are cheaper but less compliant.

Since its launch in 2014, CBDfx has released several CBD oil products including vape oil, tinctures, capsules, gummies, chill shots, wax, and even vape pens. The California-based firm sells its products to all 50 states and export to at least 25 countries across the globe. You can visit cbdfx.com to get to know the brand and its offerings.
